Philip Steblay began his career in photography as a kid hanging around his father’s photo lab and taking pictures on a Kodak Brownie camera. Having spent his entire career in the photo lab business (he still owns and operates professional labs in San Francisco and Orange County, CA) Philip’s hobby and passion has always been photography.
Philip’s primary medium remains film…preferring film’s purity and richness to digital. Whether shooting with Leica, Nikon, Canon or Hassleblad cameras (he uses them all) proper film selection is a key part of his creative process. Camera, lens and film selection are intuitive after more than 40 years experience, and his “eye” for composition is ever evolving. Landscape panoramas, subtle still life and photo journalistic travel photography are his primary emphasis.
Philip understands getting the right image is only the beginning…the proper medium for optimum printing and reproduction is essential. From the highest quality photographic prints to fine art giclee printed on canvas or watercolor substrates, the final artwork is sized and finely tailored to suit the clients’ requirements.
